Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the third-party company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not keep a separate site log of the terms entered into those partner search fields.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or direct message may be retained for the time needed to respond and maintain the related correspondence. We do not disclose that message outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may automatically receive basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view dates and timestamps
- Browser type and version
- Device category and operating system
- Internet Protocol address
- Visited pages and approximate time spent
- The referring site, when that information is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help aggregate traffic patterns, such as which pages are opened most often and where a browsing session ends. Most browsers allow cookies to be limited or blocked. Turning them off may change how some site features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Operating, securing, and improving site performance
- Routing a search query to the selected partner service
- Measuring which content is useful to visitors
- Displaying advertising that may reflect user interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Orange County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material identifies official sources such as the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the District and County Clerks, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not compiled into a file about another person or used to create a consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy and retention rules, which are outside our control. Review the provider's terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Orange County offices, Texas agencies, court systems, or outside services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy controls its collection and use of information. Read that policy before providing personal details.
Advertising companies may use their own technology to measure activity across sites and select ads. That processing takes place through their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to a limited set of recipients:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers selected to process a query
- Advertising networks that serve content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect data under our control. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. When we learn that such data was supplied, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Your Data Rights
When it applies, the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, Business & Commerce Code Chapter 541, gives Texas consumers rights regarding certain personal data. Scope, exceptions, identity verification, and appeal rules can limit a request. Available requests may include the ability to:
- Confirm whether covered personal data is being processed and obtain access
- Correct inaccuracies in covered personal data
- Request deletion when the law provides that right
- Opt out of specified processing, including targeted advertising or sale where applicable
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A revised version will be posted here and identified by a new effective date.
